Silverstone International Circuit

Silverstone International Circuit, the famed “Home of British Motorsport,” began life as a World War II airfield before hosting its first race in 1948 and the inaugural Formula One World Championship Grand Prix in 1950. Its fast, flowing layout and rich heritage have made it a landmark for global motorsport ever since.

Endurance racing at Silverstone has a proud history. The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) selected Silverstone as the venue for its rebirth in 2012, with the “6 Hours of Silverstone” often serving as the season opener. Between 2012 and 2019, the event produced some of the championship’s greatest battles, including the titanic LMP1 contests between Audi, Toyota, and Porsche. Even after its final WEC running in 2019, the circuit remains a cornerstone of endurance racing history.

The European Le Mans Series (ELMS) has even deeper ties. Silverstone first welcomed the Le Mans Endurance Series, ELMS’s predecessor, in 2004. From 2008, the newly branded European Le Mans Series regularly began its seasons at Silverstone, with the ELMS itself returning almost every year between 2012 and 2019. The track’s mix of legendary corners like Copse and Maggots-Becketts provides the perfect stage for multi-class racing, cementing Silverstone’s role as a historic proving ground for endurance teams and future Le Mans winners.
