Driver Swap and Team Races – Everything You Need to Know

Thank you for for everyone who took part in our first official Le Mans Ultimate team race – and good news our second one is back and happening 5-7 September!

If you’re planning to enter, read on carefully as there are a few important details to keep in mind.

What You Will Experience

During these events, you will:

  • Join a team with at least one teammate and take turns driving the same car
  • Execute live driver swaps in the pitlane using the in-game Multi-Function Display (MFD)
  • Experience the thrill of long-format team racing with full multiclass grids
  • Compete using skill-based matchmaking

These events are powered by RaceControl, and will be the first chance to test the full end-to-end team experience in a live, controlled environment.

This Is still a Test Event – Expect Bumps in the Road

Although the first test event exceeded our expectations with performance, driver swaps are one of the most technically demanding features we’ve ever implemented and there’s no substitute for wide-reaching, real-world data.

Please be aware:

  • Issues may occur – This is expected and part of the reason these events are being run.
  • Driver Ratings (DR) WILL be affected during the event. We want players to start building team ratings as well as taking part. Gains will be small so you should not have to worry about any huge rating losses due to technical problems or early bugs. Please note Safety Rank (SR) will still be active.

  • Skill-based matchmaking will still be in place, so you’ll be grouped with teams of similar ability for competitive balance.

If you encounter problems, please report them via our normal feedback channels in Discord so we can continue to refine and improve the feature for future events. Please keep feedback concise with as much detail as possible and without editorialising.

🔗 Known Issues for Driver Swaps

  • Timings on Watch Screen during Race does not show differences correctly when cars have not completed the same number of laps

  • Engineer being able to change pitstop values for team events is unavailable due to some persistent issues that we do not want to affect the test event so the currently in control driver will set the incoming driver and pit strategy. Engineers can still connect to watch and view advanced timing and VE data.

Your feedback during this stage is vital, and your support makes these milestones possible.

So grab your teammates, assign those roles, and get ready to go racing—together.

We’ll see you on track.
